Essilor Solutions was featured at the recent VISIONZ trade fair showcasing Essilor’s commitment to partnering with the eye-care professionals to understand their business and provide multiple tools to run a seamless and efficient practice.

Essilor Solutions integrates Product, Service, Education, Business and Practice Management Solutions for your practice. Visitors to the Essilor stand were invited to test the new fully integrated Practice Management Solution and experience the streamlined processes available for your practice.

Today, more than ever before, recommending the right spectacles for each individual patient requires demonstrable expertise on the part of eye-care professionals. Taking the relevant measurements with the highest degree of accuracy, providing advice and assistance with the frame & lens selection process and explaining the features of the products you recommend as well as demonstrating the benefits they deliver are crucial in offering your patients the true eye-care specialist experience.

Essilor’s Practice Management Solutions are designed to streamline the everyday systems in your practice, to help with the patient experience, save time, expense and avoid unnecessary double handling of crucial information. Essilor NZ has developed an advanced system using three key components; Visioffice, Essilink and Sunix Vision.

Visioffice is Essilor’s patented integrated system which combines sales support, prescription measurement (the most accurate in the world) and a frame selection interface which utilises still images as well as video. An asset to your practice, Visioffice provides a stylish, high-tech experience to your patients while supporting your practice staff with digital product demonstrations.

Essilor NZ has partnered with Sunix Vision to offer a complete integration between Visioffice and Sunix Vision practice management software. All patient data can be transferred between systems via your practice network, offering increased efficiency in your practice.

All patient information can be sent by the click of a button from Sunix Vision to Essilink, Essilor’s new online ordering system. Patient data will be automatically loaded to your order, and by uploading a digital frame trace or entering frame details you will gain access to the lens thickness calculator which illustrates the thickness you can expect based on the prescription and frame measurements.

Additionally, Essilink offers real-time visibility on your order as it progresses through Essilor’s manufacturing facilities. This tracking system applies to all orders, whether they are placed online or through other channels.

Essilor NZ can interface all of these systems to increase the levels of performance, reliability and accuracy in your practice while also delivering cost savings for your business. An integrated system can deliver a highly accurate and consistent ordering solution, eliminating double entry and reducing errors whilst giving you visibility on order status which will highlight at any given time exactly where your order is in the production process, reducing unnecessary phone time by staff.

If your practice does not yet have the Visioffice unit or Sunix Vision practice management software, Essilor has developed a bespoke integration proposal for customers to gain access to this key practice technology at an affordable price so please contact your local Essilor Territory Manager to find our more about Essilor’s Practice Management Solutions.

Introducing Presio GO Digital Progressive Lenses - Digital Precision within everyone’s reach.

Digital technology surrounds us and offers new ways to see the world better, whether by increasing the number of pixels in digital cameras or viewing television in glorious high-definition.

As the leader in the photographic industry, Nikon has been able to perfect the world of digital technology. Lens technology is constantly evolving and Nikon is at the forefront with its flair for precision manufacturing and development of progressive designs.

Presio GO Digital, the latest addition to the Nikon progressive portfolio, follows the technological footsteps of the previous Presio-i design philosophy, offering now advanced, digital precision in everyone’s reach.

This new back surface design benefits from Nikon’s proven aspheric lens technology. Aspheric technology, originated in camera lens designs, produces thinner, lighter, flatter and optically better performing lenses.

Nikon Presio GO Digital is optimised by the unique Nikon Calculation Engine. The Nikon mathematical algorithm is only completed once the order with the individual RX is received. The optimisation process starts by analysing point by point what the wearer power should be. The process is repeated many times in order to correct visual aberrations as much as possible.

The surface is optimised by reducing aberrations for more controlled visual areas for the wearer.

Nikon’s sophisticated and unique processing technology, Nikon Digital Surfacing, is the backbone of Presio GO Digital. It enables superior precision for increased image resolution. “Presio GO Digital offers sharper and wider fields of vision – with the advantage of a proven consumer brand.” says Robert Springer, Nikon Business Development Manager at Essilor.

This is what truly differentiates Nikon’s offer from its competitors. The Nikon brand is known and trusted world wide and can support practices in positioning themselves in today’s competitive market.

Presio GO Digital is now available in two progression lengths and a range of materials; 1.50, 1.60 and 1.67 in clear and Transitions. Please contact your Essilor Territory Manager now for more information on Presio GO Digital.

Introducing Varilux Physio f-360º
Enhanced High Resolution Vision™ with flexible wearing parameters

After successfully launching the Varilux 360º Series with three new designs earlier this year, Essilor has once again broken new ground with their new progressive lens design.

The elite design of Varilux Physio f-360º builds on the success of Varilux Physio and Varilux Physio 360º to offer Enhanced High Resolution Vision™ thanks to Essilor’s exclusive W.A.V.E. Technology™.

W.A.V.E. Technology (Analysis of the Wavefront) is used to analyse the entire beam of light entering the pupil, not just single rays. Higher order aberrations can thus be controlled, to provide higher resolution for patients in all gaze directions.

Varilux Physio f-360º enhances High Resolution Vision™ with the introduction of flexible wearing parameters. Taking into account pupillary distance, vertex distance, pantoscopic tilt, wrap angle and fitting height (right and left), Varilux Physio f-360º can be designed individually to each wearer’s exact requirements.

Specific measuring devices are required to obtain the additional parameters. These five measurements can be taken using either Essilor’s Visioffice dispensing unit or with the comprehensive hand held measuring tool specifically designed to assist the ordering of Varilux Physio f-360º.

Compared to a standard progressive lens, Varilux Physio f-360º improves visual performance by up to 30%. Patients benefit from up to 30% better contrast in far vision, up to 30% wider fields of vision in mid distance and up to 30% easier access to near vision thanks to a custom-located near vision area.

Varilux Physio f-360º will be available from August 2009.

Olivier Chupin, General Manager for Essilor NZ says, “Varilux Physio f-360º reinforces Essilor’s commitment to the New Zealand eye-care professionals by providing the latest in lens technology through our local network of laboratories.”

Essilor gets ready to celebrate 100 million Varilux Comfort wearers worldwide.

2009 is a year of celebration for Essilor with the 50th anniversary of Varilux and now the milestone of 100 million Varilux Comfort wearers worldwide.

Toyota Corolla, the most successful car the in the world has sold 32 million cars since its launch in 1966. In less than 16 years Varilux Comfort has more than tripled these sales.

The first natural vision progressive lens, Varilux Comfort, is based on a very simple principle: giving wearers vision that is as natural as possible.

Since its launch in 1993, Varilux Comfort very quickly established itself as the benchmark against which other progressive lenses are measured.

With the development of Varilux Comfort, researchers focused for the first time on the movement of wearers’ eyes and heads when they looked at objects that were close to them.

The central idea behind the design was to reduce the progression length of the lens to allow wearers better posture in the near vision zone (without the need to bend their heads down to read a sheet of A4 on a desk in a natural position) and at the same time have better control over the edges of the lens to reduce aberrations and provide maximum visual comfort.

This year Essilor have launched Varilux Comfort 360º® - a part of the Varilux 360º Series. The unique visual ergonomics of the original Varilux Comfort design are combined with Essilor’s Advanced Digital Surfacing™ technology to deliver up to 30% wider fields of vision and a superior ergonomic performance, customized for each prescription.

Essilor would like to say a big THANK YOU to all opticians who have trusted and supported the Varilux brand. Essilor could not have wished for a better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Varilux.

Varilux and the culture of innovation: 50 years of innovation to meet future challenges

In the vanguard for 50 years, Varilux has made its mark as the worldwide* leader in progressive lenses. The pioneering spirit that defines the brand has not been challenged since 1959, the year when progressive lenses were invented by Bernard Maitenaz, a young optical and mechanical engineer from the Société des Lunetiers.

This major 20th-century invention revolutionized the world of ophthalmic optics and even today continues to boost the well-being of several million people with presbyopia. Through innovation, Varilux makes increasingly natural, high-performance visual acuity a reality for each and every wearer.

The individual has well and truly been at the heart of Varilux's creative passion for over half a century. A series of major advancements in physiological optics and mathematics, in addition to increasingly innovative manufacturing processes, have enabled Varilux to launch six successive generations of lenses with increasingly improved resolution. Farewell to half-eye and bifocal lenses that break up the visual field!

Worldwide success greeted this consumer product, which was acknowledged as the market quality standard and received recognition from the scientific community with no less than inclusion in the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie collection in 2007.
With the collaboration of universities, scientists and professionals from all countries, Essilor's 500 researchers are hard at work every day on the production of new designs and surfaces – tested via the dioptric method – and the quest for the lens of the future: an active, intelligent lens design able to change in real time to adapt to every situation, all day.

The latest revolutionary innovations have already paved the way for a new era. Varilux Physio, which incorporates wavefront control technology borrowed from adaptive optics used in astronomy, led to the first lens designed for High Resolution Vision in 2006. Perfected in 2008, the most recent lens – Varilux Ispeo New Edition, a lens tailored to an individual's visual behavior – is a spectacular development resulting from research into optic solutions via virtual reality.

Experimentation with virtual reality, as presented in Varilux Expérience, today opens the way to broad research vistas and heralds progress in the development of leading technological solutions, all to the benefit of wearers everywhere. There's no doubt about it: these lenses will be of huge benefit to the world's seven billion individuals, one-third of whom will be affected by presbyopia from about age 40 onwards.

Today, this same pioneering spirit – born of boldness, patience, determination and a passion for research, all solid Varilux characteristics – drives some 30,000 employees at today's Essilor, a multinational that dominates the ophthalmic optical market worldwide. Varilux's stellar human, technological, scientific and industrial adventure thus continues with the same eagerness to take on future challenges.

Now featuring NEW Varilux Comfort 360º and NEW Varilux Ellipse 360º

Traditional lens designs have set the standard for most progressive lenses available on the market today. Nevertheless there has always been a compromise in optical performance, as “best form” lens shape could not be supplied for the individual patient’s prescription.

Digital surfacing provides greater flexibility and control for the production of the intended design on the back surface. However, even with digital surfacing, lens design remains the critical factor.

The Varilux 360º Series takes the proven Varilux Design Series which includes Varilux Physio, Varilux Comfort and Varilux Ellipse and adds the ingenuity of Essilor’s Advanced Digital Surfacing™ technology.

All Varilux 360º products benefit from the ability to create the optimal lens with a customized “best form” back surface. Essilor’s Point-By-Point Prescription Mapping™ calculates a unique design tailored to the front-surface progression and the wearer’s prescription. Patented surfacing tools ensure the optimal visual performance of the lens.

Varilux 360º Series is built on Dual Digital Vision (DDV), a 3-step process taking into account:

1) Proven Lens Designs
Any surfacing process is only as good as the lens it is being applied to – no PAL brand surpasses Varilux for proven performance and patient satisfaction. In fact, in a double blind clinical trial Varilux Physio non-digitally surfaced was preferred 4:1 over a competitor’s premium digitally surfaced PAL.1

2) Digital Surfacing Calculation – Essilor’s Point-By-Point Prescription Mapping ™
This patented calculation software analyses the lens design and calculates a customised and complementary back surface. The effectiveness of the original front surface design is enhanced for all prescriptions. Integrating the qualities of both lens surfaces is the key to maximising performance

3) Patented Surfacing Tools
Expert knowledge of progressive lenses and digital surfacing is critical to produce the customised back surfaces of Varilux 360˚ lenses. Essilor has developed a patented digital process that delivers
pin-point accuracy unlike anything else on the market.

With up to 30% wider fields of vision, it’s easy to see the benefits

• Unlike our competitors, Varilux 360˚ creates an optimal lens by customising the wearer’s prescription to the front-surface design – widening vision in every zone.

• When a distance prescription is ground on any semi-finished lens, the base curve makes only one “best-form” prescription. Each wearer’s prescription is different and will generate unique variations of
peripheral aberration. A single traditional design will not compensate for each of these variations.

• Varilux 360˚ resolves this issue by creating a unique back surface design that widens fields of vision by up to 30% and provides crisper acuity, right to the edge of the lens.

Your patients will also experience remarkable benefits

The Varilux 360º Series lifts restrictions on the wearer’s vision that they may have experienced wearing reading or bifocal lenses. With all Varilux 360º products the wearer’s fields of vision are expanded and their progressive vision becomes more natural.

• Visual freedom at near, far and everywhere in between

• 30% Wider fields of vision

• Crisper acuity right to the edge of the lens
